School Crossing Guard Program

Safe crossings, secure futures. Irving's commitment to student safety.

The mission of the School Crossing Guard Program in Irving is to safeguard children and pedestrians as they travel to and from school. The program accomplishes this by teaching students proper crossing techniques, ensuring safe passage at designated crossing points, and monitoring assigned locations for any potential hazards before and after school hours.

The primary responsibility of each crossing guard is to assist children in crossing streets safely by identifying safe gaps in traffic or creating them when necessary. It is important to note that crossing guards are not responsible for directing traffic. Each guard undergoes specialized training tailored to these duties before being assigned to a specific post.

To manage the School Crossing Guard Program, the City of Irving Police Department has partnered with All City Management Services (ACMS). ACMS, a California-based corporation founded in 1985, has been the nation's largest provider of school crossing guard services for over 30 years and currently employs more than 5,000 guards nationwide. They took over management of the program on April 1, 2018.

Individuals interested in becoming a school crossing guard can obtain more information by contacting Ms. Ellen Chears at All City Management Services at (972) 210-5767.
