Juveniles & Minors
Class C misdemeanor criminal offenses that occur in Irving are filed in the Irving Municipal Court.
Need to Know
- Article 45.0215, C.C.P., requires the parent, managing conservator, or custodian of a defendant under age 17 (juvenile) to appear in open court with their child. This rule applies regardless of how the defendant wants to handle his or her case. If the defendant wishes to be represented by an attorney, they are still required to be present in court with a parent or legal guardian.
- Minors (ages 17 - 20) must appear before the Judge regarding tobacco and alcohol related violations.
- Court appointed attorneys are not provided and must be retained by the defendant if they so choose.
- After a plea is entered in open court, then an option can be selected to proceed with the case.
- To be allowed in the courtroom, all parties must follow the dress policy and court decorum.
- Juvenile and Minor offenses will be scheduled for an Initial Appearance docket. If the Juvenile/ Minor fails to appear, notice will be sent to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) to suspend their driver’s license or prohibit them from obtaining one.
