Building Standards
The City of Irving's Building Standards Program is dedicated to ensuring the safety, health and welfare of its residents by addressing and mitigating substandard and hazardous building conditions. This program focuses on the identification, assessment and abatement of structures that pose potential risks to the community.
Scope and Schedule
A Scope and Schedule Form is a list of repairs that are needed and timeframes stating when the repairs are going to start and when the repairs will be finished.
Demolition Guidelines
An application/permit for the demolition of a structure and the capping of the sewer lines must be obtained from the Inspections Department before demolition begins.
View the Demolition Guidelines document for step-by-step instructions to prepare for demolition.
Key Components of the Program
- Property Assessment: The program conducts thorough evaluations of properties to identify violations of city ordinances and building codes, particularly those that may endanger public safety.
- Abatement Procedures: Upon identifying substandard conditions, the program initiates processes to rectify these issues, which may include repair, rehabilitation or demolition of unsafe structures.
- Community Engagement: The program collaborates with property owners to achieve voluntary compliance, providing guidance on necessary improvements and facilitating understanding of regulatory requirements.
