Pet owners are no longer required to register their pets, per City of Irving ordinance. However, microchips are required for all dogs, cats and ferrets that are four months and older.

  1. Irving Residents can stop by the shelter to pick up a voucher to make an appointment for a FREE spay/neuter, rabies and microchip. This voucher is done through two separate companies - The Spay/Neuter Network and Texas Coalition for Animal Protection (TCAP).
  2. Residents can also look up vet clinics in the area to see different pricing and services available.




Most vet offices offer these services. Residents can also stop by the shelter during business hours to get their pet microchipped for only $15. Check out the microchip page to learn more information.

  1. Fill out a Lost Pet report. Reports are sent to shelter staff who will post on the Lost and Found page. Reports are held in our database for 30 days. If you find your pet, please let us know so we can cancel the report. After 30 days, you may fill out another report if your pet is still missing.
  2. Check the Animal Services website daily to see if your pet was brought to the shelter.
  3. Visit our shelter as often as possible to look for your pet. Your pet might have been taken to a neighboring city shelter, so be sure to check other nearby shelters too.
  4. Search your neighborhood and leave information, a description of your pet with a picture and your contact information with as many people and businesses as possible. You can also post an announcement on social media and place an ad in the local newspaper.
  5. If you find your lost pet, get a microchip and an ID tag so that they can be easily returned to you if they ever become lost again.
  • If you can approach the pet safely, check for an ID tag, contact the owner, and help reunite the pet with its family. If the pet is not wearing an ID tag, take the animal to a veterinary clinic or bring them to the Irving Animal Care Campus to check for a microchip.
  • If you are unable to approach or transport the animal safely, call Irving Animal Services at (972) 721-2256 and provide the officer with a detailed description of the animal and the location. *If the animal is not located within the city limits of Irving, please contact the animal services agency for the area in which the animal is located.
  • If you have a lost pet contained and can provide temporary shelter but have not been able to find the owner, submit a Found Animal report. Online reports are sent to shelter staff who will post on the Lost and Found page. Reports are held in our database for 30 days. If you find the owner, please let us know so we can cancel the report. After 30 days, you may fill out another report if the owner has not been found.
  • Post fliers and notices in your area and on social media. Advertise in local newspapers and be sure to read the "Lost" ads.

To submit a lost / found report, access the online form for either reporting a lost pet, or reporting a found pet. Submit a picture if possible.

  1. If you find your pet or the owner, contact Animal Services to cancel the report.

Irving Animal Services posts all animals submitted via the department's Lost and Found Pet reports. Visit the Lost and Found page.

  1. Animals listed on the Reported Lost tab are submitted by residents looking for their lost pets
  2. Animals listed on the Animals Found tab may be housed at the shelter or housed by an individual who posted a Found Animal Report.

By state law, all jurisdictions must designate someone to handle animal bite cases. This person is the Local Rabies Control Authority (LRCA). For the City of Irving, the LRCA is the Animal Services Manager.

If you are bitten or scratched by an animal, follow these steps. They may save your life.

  1. Thoroughly wash the wound right away with soap and water, and rinse well.
  2. Identify the animal by kind, size, color and location.
  3. See a doctor as soon as possible. The doctor will determine what treatment you may need.
  4. Report the incident to Irving Animal Services at (972) 721-2256. If the animal can be captured, it will be quarantined or tested for rabies.


Yes. The quarantine fee is $150 per animal.
