MDU Operations & Maintenance
MDU Operations is responsible for maintaining and improving stormwater infrastructure throughout the city. This group is responsible for the following infrastructure: storm drain inlets, underground storm drain pipes, ponds, natural waterways, bar ditches, and concrete channels.
MDU Operations strives to improve the condition of the city's drainage infrastructure in a variety of ways. The ultimate goal is to maintain the health of existing assets and prolong their working life as long as possible, all while reducing flood risk throughout the city. If these assets are not maintained, blockages and structural degradation can cause damage to both private property and other public assets.
Litter control and shopping cart abatement is another component of the O&M group. The removal of trash and debris from drainage channels, roadway corridors, and debris collection structures in channels has been a council driven focus. The MDU team removes close to 1 million pounds of trash and debris from the city's waterways and corridors every year. Please do your part to help keep Irving's creeks and streams free of trash and debris.
