Building Inspections

The Building Inspections Division of the City of Irving plays a pivotal role in ensuring the safety, quality, and compliance of all construction projects within the city. This division includes Building, Electrical, Mechanical (HVAC), Plumbing, and Irrigation inspections. By overseeing the inspection process for new constructions and remodels, both commercial and residential, this division safeguards public welfare and upholds the city's standards.

The mission of the division is to serve homeowners, developers, and contractors in meeting their construction goals and to verify code and ordinance compliance to protect the public.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Throughout the construction phase, inspectors conduct on-site evaluations to ensure adherence to approved plans and compliance with all relevant codes and ordinances.

My Government Online (MGO) Portal

Once a permit is obtained, then inspections can be scheduled through MGO Connect (MGO), the City's online portal for permitting and inspections. Refer to our Online Portal Tips for instructions on how to create an MGO account and use the platform. There is also a phone app called MGO Connect for both Androids and iPhones.

Permit Applications

  1. Most permit applications are submitted and paid for online through MGO Connect (MGO).
  2. Here is a full list of the City of Irving's permit applications and how to access them.
  3. If validating a trade onto a building permit (HVAC, electrical, plumbing), email the Inspections Department. This cannot be done through the MGO portal. There is no fee to validate.

Inspection Requests

MGO Connect (MGO) is used to schedule all inspections and view inspection results. To request an inspection using MGO, the cut-off time is 6 a.m. the day of the inspection. After 6 a.m., inspections can be scheduled for the next business day.
